Who may qualify for Lifeline?

The main ways to qualify, without guessing from a ZIP code or promising approval.

Qualify through a benefit program

You or someone in your household may qualify through Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, Federal Public Housing Assistance, or Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit. A child or dependent's participation can count. The official application makes the determination.

Qualify by household income

A household may qualify when income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The dollar amount changes with household size, location, and year. Check the current USAC table before applying.

Additional Tribal and survivor pathways

People on qualifying Tribal lands may qualify through certain Tribal assistance programs. Survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, or related crimes may have a separate temporary pathway. Read USAC's current rules for these situations.

Check the official source for current rules and figures.
