What is SafeLink Wireless?

SafeLink is a wireless provider offering Lifeline-supported service to eligible households. Lifeline is a federal benefit that reduces the cost of phone or internet service; availability and offers depend on your location.

Understand the benefit before you choose a plan.

  • Lifeline is the federal discount; SafeLink is a participating wireless company.
  • Plans, devices, and coverage depend on the offer for your ZIP code.
  • A household generally gets one Lifeline benefit at a time.

How does Lifeline work?

The FCC sets Lifeline policy and USAC administers eligibility. After qualifying, you enroll with a participating company such as SafeLink. One Lifeline discount is generally allowed per household.

Is SafeLink really free?

Some eligible customers may see a $0 service offer. Plan, data allowance, device, and taxes or optional extras depend on the offer at your ZIP code. Read the offer and terms on SafeLink before enrolling. The Lifeline application itself does not require a fee.

Can I choose another provider?

Yes. Lifeline is a program benefit, not a requirement to use one company. Compare participating providers and coverage before enrolling. You cannot apply the same household's Lifeline benefit to two companies at once.

What about coverage and another wireless plan?

Enter your ZIP code on SafeLink for available offers, then check coverage at your actual address. An unrelated paid line may be possible, but only one Lifeline benefit applies per household. Ask the provider about your specific accounts.
